    Description

Lot E: 10 oz. Icelandic Fleece Fiber, Scoured, Ready to comb, felt, spin, dye, blend. Condition is "New". Shipped with USPS Priority Mail.
You will be getting 10 oz. of fully scoured Icelandic Fleece raised at a family farm in Oregon and ready for you to comb, card, spin or felt. The fiber is relatively clean with a few bits of VM (vegetable matter). As anyone who works with raw fiber knows, the final cleaning occurs when you comb or card the fiber which shakes out all the tiny bits and occasional seed heads. Icelandic sheep are dual coated: a soft undercoat (Thel) is very lofty as you can see in the picture to show staple length and the longer overcoat (Tog) - long fibers that add strength to any spinning you may do. Spun together the 2 coats make a traditional Icelandic yarn (single ply, bulky weight like Lopi or the Mauch Chunky I had for sale for awhile. You can comb the locks to separate the Thel from the Tog.
Icelandic fleece is excellent for felting; so good in fact, that over enthusiastic washing can result in felted lumps. No Worries: I was very careful there and have tested each of the 5 listings by pulling some of the locks apart to be sure they can be separated.
I scour small batches carefully by hand.
You will see a good bit of variation in the colors of this fleece. Locks are each mostly mixed. Be sure to look at all the pictures to see all the color varieties. Again, white and light grey, lock ends are mostly cream/white. This fleece wanted to felt right away, so I'd say its undercoat is more dominant that the other fleeces. As a result I left it very partially "in the grease" because I didn't want to risk felting it. It has just enough "grease" to make for smooth and joyful spinning but not enough that you'd need to scour the yarn when you're done. Obviously, it wants to felt!
These fleeces have been stored in sturdy plastic bins free from insects and other pests and away from moisture, pets and odors.
I welcome combined shipments and payments for bids won within 3 days of each other. Please let me know after you've won your first bid that you would like to do that. Combine all 6 listings to get all 6 color variations, make an offer totaling the opening bids, and I will be able to combine shipping at a good rate to save you money.
Your fleece will be sent in a sturdy plastic mailer or box by USPS, usually priority.  All sales are final, I do not offer refunds.
Thanks for looking and happy bidding if you choose to do so.
