    Description

An excellent condition, exciting, mid-century Makonde carving in ebony or "mpinga" wood.
Is a fun looking Shetani or forest spirit with a huge grin!
No dye, no black shoe polish so up close you can see a bit of brown in the natural wood.
I lived outside Nairobi and Kikuyu in Muguga for 4 years early 70's and did see many black shoe polished carvings, commonly at the big city market, even guys sitting there applying the polish for shame!
Has to be Mpinga wood with grain or no sale in my book.
This is a great Shetani carving, very interesting looking face and body!
Does stand straight with the felt protectors seen.
    High quality carved and styled.
Hand-sanded smooth, no edges as you see in cheaper carvings.
Medium 10" height. A very nice work.
    Final price reduction.
