    This extraordinary sculpture is the work of well known American artist, sculptor, designer, author and teacher, FRED PRESS, whose work resides in the permanent collection of Boston's Museum of Fine Arts and the Worcester Art Museum.  His articles have been published in the American Artist Magazine as well as other respected publications, and Press was commissioned in the 1990's by the U.S. Navy to design two bronze plaques which are on permanent display at the U.S. Naval Memorial in Washington, D.C.  A distinguished career indeed!
    Originally purchased from Marshall Fields (Chicago) in the late  1940s.  One owner.
